I’m Patryk Rusak, a lifelong JDM enthusiast born in Poland and raised in Canada. Before moving to Japan, I spent over four years working directly in the automotive sales industry.

That experience was crucial. It taught me exactly how dealerships operate, the tricks used to hide cosmetic and mechanical flaws, and the "sales talk" used to glaze over serious issues. I learned the importance of transparency—something that is often painfully missing in the Japanese export market.

THE ORIGIN STORY

My passion for Japanese car culture is what brought me to Japan, but my own personal experience as a buyer is what lead to the founding of R-Spec Japan.

When I arrived in Japan, I bought my own dream car—a 2008 BMW 335i. Over the phone, the dealer described it as "clean." The photos looked pristine. I trusted them.

When the car arrived, the reality was different. It had multiple undisclosed issues that were never mentioned in the listing or shown in the video. It was a frustrating, costly reminder that you simply cannot rely on a seller's word alone.

I realized that international buyers needed a trustworthy, independent set of eyes on the ground. Someone who works for them, not the dealer. That’s why I started R-Spec: to ensure you know exactly what you're buying before you wire your hard-earned money.
